Understanding the molecular basis of cancer is critical to achieving significant breakthroughs in the diagnosis, prognosis and treatment of the disease. Today much progress is being made through the application of genome analysis technologies, especially large-scale genome sequencing and SNP analysis, to effectively identify mutations, genetic alterations and cancer genes. Gene interactions (pathways and signaling cascades) and gene regulation (epigenetic/microRNA) also play a significant role in the development of cancer and are important to support diagnosis and treatment. MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a recently discovered class of small nucleic acids that negatively regulate gene expression. This novel class of molecules modulates a wide array of growth and differentiation processes in human cancers and profiling miRNA expression has diagnostic utility. Epigenetic profiling is helping to understand how regulation can be targeted in cancer. Pathway analysis tools are essential to chart signaling cascades and other pathways involved in cancer development.

Who should attend: Vice Presidents, Chief Executive Officers, Chief Scientific Officers, Directors of R & D, Senior Managers, Managers, Directors, Senior Scientists, and Senior Researchers in Oncology, Genetics, Functional Genomics, Molecular Biology, Bioinformatics, Target Validation, Drug Discovery, and R&D.

Technical Topics to be Covered Include:

  • Next generation sequencing to identify cancer genes & mutations

  • Genome-wide association studies – SNPSWhole genome expression profiling

  • microRNA expression profiling in cancer

  • Epigenetic profiling in human cancer

  • Pathway analysis – mapping pathways & identifying the intervention points

If you would like to submit a proposal to give a presentation or display a poster at this meeting, please submit a title and brief 3-5 sentence summary of a proposed topic on your recent work in the area of the cancer profiling and pathways.

The deadline for submission is August 8, 2008.
